Technical Features

Solidity - During load resistance testing, we went as high as 1,150 lbs (after which, we stopped as a precaution). The payload is 595 lbs, corresponding to the load that a helicopter winch can bear. All of the materials used to make the bag were selected for their solidity, among other criteria.

Autonomous Lift Unit (ALU) - The bag is equipped with an autonomous life unit (ALU), designed for deep-water lifting under optimal security conditions. Its flexibility means it can, with or without the bar, lift a load of 220 lbs, in complete safety for the accompanying divers. The ALU is inflated using a 2-liter tank of compressed air that is incorporated directly under the outer cover. The body is then raised to the surface at a marker. The ALU unit weighs 14.8 lbs.

Float bags {OPTION} - For recoveries on the surface of the water, two float bags can be attached on each side of the bag. These buoys keep the bag at the surface, namely for removal of the body at a dock or landing stage in a port. Each bag is equipped with an autonomous 1-liter tank of compressed air. Each bag weighs 5.67 lbs.

Drainage and filter - In consideration of forensic issues, the bag is equipped with a filter at the bottom that allows water drain and keeps any clues safely inside.

Transportation - The bag comes with seven carry handles, three on each side and one at the feet. These handles can be used to carry the bag up a slipway or to pull it up onto a dock, a landing stage, or the bridge of a ship.

Twin lift bar - The bag can be winched and/or helihoisted. A twin lift bar can be used to facilitate these operations. Very lightweight (4.13 lbs) and easy to use, it rigidifies the bag and distributes the load across the canvas to preserve the victim's body. This lift accessory is compliant with CE standards, and its payload is 595 lbs. Once raised, it makes it easier to bring the bag inside a helicopter.

Dimensions - Volume - Weight

  • The bag is spacious enough to hold a heavy-set body, or even a diver with all of his/her equipment

  • Folded dimensions: 17.7" x 17.7" x 7.9"

  • Unfolded, closed dimensions: 7.9 feet x 3.9 feet

  • Unfolded, open dimensions: 7.9 feet x 7.6 feet

  • Bag weight: 18.7 lbs

Ballast - The right balance between the bag's weight and its float-ability allows it to be heavy enough to resist marine undercurrents and light enough to recover a body from the surface.

Opening - The zipper measures 14' 5" in length, making it possible to open the bag completely.

Water tightness - The bag is 100% watertight so that no clues are lost during transportation. The watertightness offers guaranteed protection against any bio-hazards.

Bag reuse - Thanks to a cleaning procedure that neutralizes bacteria and the risk of contamination, the bag can be reused. This procedure reduces any risk of DNA contamination.

Traceability - Out of an ongoing concern for trace-ability, each bag bears a unique number.

Seals - The bag comes with a series of quick-attaching seals, each with its own unique number.

Document pouch - The bag comes with a zipped pouch allowing investigators to place documents related to the victim. As a result, forensic lab personnel do not need to open the bag to obtain the necessary information about the victim's body. That document pouch bears the same number as the bag to which it is attached.

Watertight bone bag {OPTION} - A watertight can be provided to hold bones or a skull, in order to help prevent the loss of dental information that may be essential for identifying the victim.

This bag drains at the bottom, with the same filter as on the Amphibious Body Bag. It can be placed inside the body bag, along with other human remains. It can also be used on its own, without the body bag. It can also be sealed using the same system as the body bag.
